Based in Mountain Ash, South Wales, Established in 2016 and with almost 20 years experience in the snow industry, We service Ski’s and Snowboard’s by hand, Not by machine!
From the Original Butta Wax to Graphite Pro Race Butta Wax, we can also service your ski skins for that off-piste hike!
So what exactly does waxing do for your Snowboard or Ski’s?
First the wax increases the glide over the snow, meaning your Snowboard/Skis will run faster and smoother on the snow (especially on warm, slushy Spring days) Also, the build-up of wax acts as protection against rocks and rails etc, absorbing the small cuts, gouges and anything else that might otherwise damage the base material during the course of the day. Long term damage will cause scaring of the base and graphics. This will affect the base performance. Finally the use of wax prolongs the durability of the Snowboard/Skis meaning a longer-lasting investment for you!
When some people will wax their snowboards/skis each time they hit the hill, the general consensus seems to be that waxing once every two or three times you ride is enough to reap the benefits. Additionally some riders apply a coat of wax (but don’t scrape it) before storing the Snowboard/Ski for the Summer to keep them from oxidising.
The difference between Sintered and extruded base:
Sintered bases are faster than extruded bases. But they require more maintenance (waxing) to keep them in good shape. If you wax regularly, a sintered base is going to be faster than a waxed extruded base. If you don’t wax your equipment, a non waxed extruded base will be faster than a non waxed sintered base. An extruded base is formed by heat, so there are not any/or allot less pours to hold wax, where an extruded base is formed with pressure so there is more pours to soak up the wax. Most high-end snowboards now seem to be sintered. Some park snowboards are extruded. Low end could be either but typically extruded.
Ski skins lost their stick?
We can even reglue! Don’t forget, those skins will need a service too!! Look after your equipment and it will look after you!
Avalanche Warning time!
Back doing our Snowboard instructor course in Jasper, Canada, we had the pleasure of doing the avalanche course. This included using transponders and receivers, shovels and telescopic probes, throwing 3kg bombs off the top of the mountain to set avalanches off, and being buried 6ft under snow in a controlled area with a training tracker… Continue reading Avalanche Warning time!
Do you know the RESPONSIBILITY CODE?
We have spent many seasons with holidays and teaching, and it’s surprising how little the responsibility code is not known. Something we have picked up on is while skiing in a group, did you know the 1st rider stops to the side of the hill/piste and the next rider will stop down hill from them… Continue reading Do you know the RESPONSIBILITY CODE?
